This study is dedicated to the analysis of certain situations within Senecan tragic dialogue in which gesture appears dysfunctional. The analysis aims to highlight the effects that the dysfunctional gesture causes on the relationship between the interacting subjects. Three cases are taken into consideration: the embrace and the gesture of supplication in Phaedra, and tears that create conflict and the disturbing gesture of sacratas deripere infulas in Agamemnon.
