Abstract
The paper aims at harmonizing a geographical and cultural approach through the analysis of the relationship between Jews and Christians in Parma. At the time when other countries were establishing ghettos, the Duke of the city decided on a different negotiation of urban spaces. He forbade the Jews to reside in the capital but agreed with the Jewish community in which towns of the Duchy they could move and freely dwell. During the Restoration, when the Duchess Maria Luigia decided to purchase an important collection of ancient Hebrew manuscripts for her palace's newly built library, which was open to scholars, a proper Jewish community was re-establishing itself in Parma. The observation of places of worship and culture and the analysis of the socio-territorial processes related to them, allows us to understand the complexity of the Emancipation paths, while unveiling and hinting at contradictions.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
