This paper presents data on faunal remains from funerary contexts in the Roman era and Late Antiquity located in northern Italy. At present, this is a preliminary overview of the subject, since proper zooarchaeological studies have only been carried out at nine necropolises located mainly in Trentino-Alto Adige/ Südtirol and Veneto, and three individual cases in Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Continuing study of these finds will help enrich our understanding of funerary rituals in Roman society, and the transformations that occurred during the transition to the Early Middle Ages.

Abstract
This paper presents data on faunal remains from funerary contexts in the Roman era and Late Antiquity located in northern Italy. At present, this is a preliminary overview of the subject, since proper zooarchaeological studies have only been carried out at nine necropolises located mainly in Trentino-Alto Adige/ Südtirol and Veneto, and three individual cases in Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Continuing study of these finds will help enrich our understanding of funerary rituals in Roman society, and the transformations that occurred during the transition to the Early Middle Ages.File in questo prodotto:
