Starting from a review of the Lexical Approach’s principles (herein referred to as LA) articulated by Lewis, the authors aim at identifying the points of contact with the multilingual approach. It is in fact possible to talk about an evolution of the LA and the integration of Lewis' methodological insights into the framework of the pluralistic approaches, which emerged in the last thirty years within the European socio-cultural framework. Specifically, the essay will illustrate which aspects of LA are adopted in the pluralistic approaches and how these aspects promote learning. Direct access to the lexicon (without recourse to translation), cotextuality and strategic competence, therefore, become precious resources both for the LA and for the pluralistic approaches.
