Dante’s fortune in Catalonia between the 14th and 15th centuries is witnessed by a large number of evidences, among which we find the Catalan translation of the Commentary on the Purgatorio by Cristoforo Landino, transmitted by ms. 20 of the University Library of Barcelona (late 15th c. - first half of the 16th c.). Through the analysis of the text of this translation, the essay highlights the strategies adopted in the rendering of the Italian text and, at the same time, demonstrates that the Catalan text closely follows the one of Landino’s first edition (Florence, 1481). The last part of the paper takes into consideration the errors and their corrections, showing how (at it has already been already hipothesized), we are in the presence of an autograph copy, possibly produced in the Franciscan milieu of Barcelona.
