The article investigates aspects of the devotion to Nergal in the Neo-Assyrian sources referring to various ritual contexts, military praxis included. It also considers how this specific divine figure and the cult to him attributed can be connected with the more general on-going theologic reflection and the policy of cohesion in the Neo-Assyrian empire.
