Spanish Renaissance Romances of Chivalry includes a strong recursive component modelled on the imitation of the previous tradition. In the studies on fiction and in particular chivalric romance, we can refer to various Indexes of Motifs whose reliability is widely shared (Aarne-Thompson, Bordman, Guerreau-Jalabert, Rotunda) and on specific research and innovative proposals (J.M. Cacho Blecua, A. Gonzalez, A. Bueno Serrano, K.X. Luna Mariscal); however, it is not easy to correctly design a database of chivalrous motifs that combines the requirements of scientific accuracy with those of simplicity, accessibility and interoperability with other research projects. The communication intends to propose methodological issues and reflect on possible guidelines.
