The Museum of Renaissance Music: A History in 100 Exhibits. Itroduction

In the introductory essay to the volume, the editors Vincenzo Borghetti and Tim Shephard illustrate the general project of the book: a History of Renaissance Music told through objects and images, as well as through documents and texts, which are also explored for their material and visual aspects. The introduction focuses on fundamental themes to this type of research, such as the definition of the Renaissance in music, its geographical, social, cultural and historiographical dimensions, and discusses the methodology employed in the material approach to the history of music, told precisely through objects.
