Abstract

Over the last few decades, an abundance of studies has attempted to decode the Latin expression “quirites”, examining it from various perspectives. Considering the most ancient legal institutions of Rome, the essay tries to answer the following questions. Who are the quirites? What lies behind this rather enigmatic entity often connected to the Roman populus? What legal and social realities are suggested by the so-called “ius of the quirites”?
