Food scurity and the WTO

This work begins with a terminological explanation and the historical evolution of the concept of food security. It describes the different scopes of the term and explains the conceptual framework of the WTO to understand how it deals with world food security. A presentation as objective as possible was sought so that each reader draws their own conclusions about how much it contributes to food security or how much the WTO agreements can hinder that objective. The institutional framework of the WTO is described, as well as the Agreement on Agriculture, the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade and the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, and the relationships between food security and food safety through said standards. The progress made after the Marrakesh agreements, which can contribute to food security, and the special attention made towards net food-importing developing countries and less developed countries are also mentioned.
