The aim of this paper is to show how the pragmatics of communication can specifically contribute to the study of gestures in Plautus’ comedies. In particular, some essential methodological insights are highlighted through the analysis of a case study (the kiss in Stichus 89-92), in order to focus on how a pragmatic approach to gestures may lead to a better understanding of Plautus’ texts.
