A third century AD gold lamella was discovered in the mouth of a corpse. Its text says: Iao (i.e. Yahwe) Sabaoth. (To?) Servius, the Jew, the righteous. Iaia Israel Adonai. The things the wise pharaoh. The Jewish origin of the amulet is evident and a necromantic purpose can be supposed. The reading "pharaoh" is probable and this suggests the unique good pharaoh in the Jewish tradition: that of Joseph, who interpreted his dreams. The lamella was probably supposed to persuade the dead person to send prophetic dreams to the practitioner.
