This article examines a new statue base from Lambaesis. The inscribed text informs us that the monument was dedicated to Septimius Severus, but the name of the dedicator incurred the damnatio memoriae. It seems very likely that the statue was dedicated by the legion III Augusta: Gordian III disbanded it a few decades later, which is why the name of this unit was erased on other inscriptions from Lambaesis. The III Augusta probably erected a statue to Severus following his 203 campaign in North Africa, in which the legion played an important part.

Abstract
This article examines a new statue base from Lambaesis. The inscribed text informs us that the monument was dedicated to Septimius Severus, but the name of the dedicator incurred the damnatio memoriae. It seems very likely that the statue was dedicated by the legion III Augusta: Gordian III disbanded it a few decades later, which is why the name of this unit was erased on other inscriptions from Lambaesis. The III Augusta probably erected a statue to Severus following his 203 campaign in North Africa, in which the legion played an important part.File in questo prodotto:
