Abstract

Aldus Manutius played a fundamental role in the history of printing and publishing, and with his inventions and innovations concerning the book-object he has transcended time. He offered the works of Greek authors in the original language, allowing readers to study the classical language directly from texts in Greek. In this way, Aldus Manutius became one of the major protagonists of the fifteenth and sixteenth century Italian Renaissance, and, in the same way, György Klimo in Pécs was a protagonist of what became known, thanks to Maria Theresa, as the Second Hungarian Renaissance, which occurred during the second half of the eighteenth century. Klimo achieved his dream of opening a public library in 1774, and its core contains many editions printed in Italy. Traces of Manutius’s editions and the influence he had can be seen in Klimo’s library. This work describes the main titles and editions, connected to Manutius’s editorial choices to further the knowledge of Greek, that the Bishop of Pécs kept in his library.
