An investigation of the intersections of history and memory in the representation of Caribbean-Scottish relations. The article, by drawing on theories gauged by postcolonial and memory studies, explores the intersections between constructions of Scottishness in the imperial age and the 'un/willing' amnesia of Scotland's involvement in the exploitation of slaves and slavery. It also focuses on the central importance of appropriate forms of memorialisation of slavery in present-day Scotland, considering the limitations of representation of traumatic events, and those posed by the discourse of the nation.

Abstract
An investigation of the intersections of history and memory in the representation of Caribbean-Scottish relations. The article, by drawing on theories gauged by postcolonial and memory studies, explores the intersections between constructions of Scottishness in the imperial age and the 'un/willing' amnesia of Scotland's involvement in the exploitation of slaves and slavery. It also focuses on the central importance of appropriate forms of memorialisation of slavery in present-day Scotland, considering the limitations of representation of traumatic events, and those posed by the discourse of the nation.File in questo prodotto:
