There are many positive aspects that still make interesting the events that led to the print of the Quadriregio in 1725. This edition was not the result of marginal and local cultural interests, but of a cultural vision that was fully integrated into the Italian and European debate. The attention to the ecdotic problems shown by the promoters of the edition is not less than that found in the most renowned Italian scholars such as Ludovico Antonio Muratori. Interesting are the linguistic notes of Canneti that promotes the acceptance of new words in the Tuscan literary tradition, and the insistence, both of Canneti and of Muratori, on the moral purpose of their action as editors. The Dissertation of Canneti and the edition of the Quadriregio are therefore re-evaluated as non-secondary stages of the eighteenth-century literary history.
