This paper summarizes a symposium that was held by some of the organisers, mediators and participants of the prizewinning teacher development event ELTchat which meets weekly on Twitter to brainstorm ideas and insights on democratically selected topics related to the teaching of English language. The aim of the symposium was to show how social networks can be used in a productive, professional way and the presenters demonstrated ways in which such networking can lead to creating new contacts and archives of resources and expertise that can be shared and made available both for practitioners already working in the field and novice teachers.
