The aim of the present research is to examine the relationship between child-directed language and social referencing by analyzing Italian mother-father-child triadic interactions. 16 families are longitudinally observed and video-recorded with children at the ages of 17 and 24 months during free-play and a laboratory session. The children's linguistic productions (preverbal utterances, linguistic utterances, types, tokens, Mean Length of Utterances) during free-play and the parents' child-directed language, emotional expressions and gaze direction for both the child and parents, the physical contact of children with the parents, the child's exploration of the stimulus during laboratory session were coded. Data analysis shows a relation between both parents' child-directed language and child's language development and behavior regulation.
