Many passages of Greek tragic dialogues are affected by syntactic anomalies that have prompted textual corrections aiming at the restoration of the 'normal' syntax, or, occasionally, have been explained as diversions produced by the emotional state of the speaker. This paper aims to propose that, not differently from the recourse to metaphor in iambic dialogues, this unusual syntax recreates the tone of a polite and urban linguistic community.
