This work focuses on the Italian translation of La sangre de Antígona. Misterio en tres actos. The play was writen in 1955 by José Bergamín with an original music score by Salvador Bacarisse on request of Roberto Rossellini for Ingrid Bergman. The Italian version was staged in 2003 in Verona's Teatro Romano, whereas the Spanish play was never performed. The present article discusses the advisability of reproducing standard and experimental poetic forms (e.g. sonnets in seven syllable verse); furthemore, it examines issues concerning the tranlsation of rhethoric and metric peculiarities, taking in account stage performance as the final objective.
