This contribution examines how specificity of argument DPs is encoded in syntax. In section 1, the so-called Mapping Hypothesis is discussed. Section 2 deals with the relation between the (non-)presuppositional reading of DPs and their internal syntactic structure. Section 3 focuses on the difference between presuppositionality and discourse-linking. The last two sections show that these two notions receive a distinct codification in syntax

Abstract

This contribution examines how specificity of argument DPs is encoded in syntax. In section 1, the so-called Mapping Hypothesis is discussed. Section 2 deals with the relation between the (non-)presuppositional reading of DPs and their internal syntactic structure. Section 3 focuses on the difference between presuppositionality and discourse-linking. The last two sections show that these two notions receive a distinct codification in syntax
