From April 20 to April 23 2005, Verona played host to an international conference entitled ‘Diversity in education in an international context’. The conference was organized by the Centre for Intercultural Studies of the University of Verona1, in collaboration with the IAIE (International Association for intercultural Education), and with contributions by NAME (National Association for Multicultural Education), the City of Verona (Department of Equal Opportunities) and the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR).The conference started off on a shared awareness that the third millennium has begun with dramatic changes in terms of human coexistence. Our planet is experiencing a growing economic, scientific, cultural and political interdependence, which increasingly moves societies towards multiethnicity and multiculturalism. Social disparities, political and religious extremism, wars, and imbalances between rich and poor countries have generated greater human mobility. At the same time, the globalisation of markets, the opening of economic and financial frontiers and new technologies in mass media have created unprecedented opportunities for exchanges between different people, on an ethnic, linguistic, cultural and behaviourist level.

Abstract
At the same time, the globalisation of markets, the opening of economic and financial frontiers and new technologies in mass media have created unprecedented opportunities for exchanges between different people, on an ethnic, linguistic, cultural and behaviourist level.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
