Abstract

The specification language JML (Java Modelling Language) includes so-called assignable clauses, also known as modifies clauses, for specifying which fields may change their value as side-effect of a method. This paper uses abstract interpretation over a trace semantics for a simple object-oriented language to define a correct static analysis for checking the correctness of assignable clauses.
