This book is devoted to the philosophy of the young Schiller (1780-1789) with a view to vindicating its originality and consistency. Rather than considering Schiller's early works as a merely passive repetition of mainstream Enlightenment ideas, this volume shows the novelty of their philosophical theories, which testify to an autonomous process and are moreover very similar to those of Kant. While doing this, this investigation finally proves the philosophical import of poetry and literature.

Abstract

This book is devoted to the philosophy of the young Schiller (1780-1789) with a view to vindicating its originality and consistency. Rather than considering Schiller's early works as a merely passive repetition of mainstream Enlightenment ideas, this volume shows the novelty of their philosophical theories, which testify to an autonomous process and are moreover very similar to those of Kant. While doing this, this investigation finally proves the philosophical import of poetry and literature.
